Book matched walnut "Davenport," c. 1880, with original leather top that lifts up. Also features a smaller lift-up section on top where writing instruments were kept and four drawers on the left side of the piece. This small free-standing writing-desk derives its name from that of an English sea captain, Captain Davenport. Its compact size and enclosed compartments were originally designed for use on board a ship.
